First of all, why are we even covering Life Purpose as a puzzle piece?
“In Ancient Greece, the philosopher Socrates famously declared that the unexamined life was not worth living. Asked to sum up what all philosophical commandments could be reduced to, he replied: ‘Know yourself.’”
Many of us have spent a lifetime trying to find our life purpose because we know it will lead to a fulfilling life. We understand will give us the stability to understand our basic motivations and fears and enable us to rest in an energy of inner peace vs. being tossed around by life’s outer circumstances. It will free us from our assumptions and biases, and help us build better relationships both with ourselves and others.
But, what are the keys to help us discover what innerly we most desire? And what is this Knot all about?
What is a Life Purpose?
We are all living a purpose. How do we discover our purpose at present? Just examine what we do with our time and money.
But here we are talking about something much deeper than that. We all were born with a profound life purpose whether we are aware of it or not.
To examine it initially, it can be a profession or calling of some kind…..what we think or feel we are meant to do in this lifetime. It is important to have a livelihood, but if we search deeper, what we find is that there is an inner component, the feeling beneath it. If we truly love what we do, then that is what we truly value. Is it being a lawyer, per se, or the feeling of justice that we value? As a musician, is it really just playing an instrument or the joy and beauty one finds from the tones that resonate with one’s being, or the oneness when playing in a group? A healer may not especially enjoy the mode of healing, but what may be more valuable would be compassion, connecting with a fellow traveler to bring the health they deserve.
There is a spiritual/psychological concept that the inner always controls the outer. And as with any purpose, it is the same. The feeling beneath what one does is the driving component. Take any profession and see if you can imagine the true inner purpose that resides there. (It could even be a sense of power.)
When we look at the word, Theme, instead of purpose, it may show a different slant on the concept. Sylvia Browne, medium and psychic, shared some Theme topics that may resonate with us. She states that before we incarnated we decided on two Themes. One was to work WITH (a helpmate, a purpose) and one was to work ON (a challenge, a nemesis). I have received permission from The Sylvia Browne group to copy these Themes for your perusal.
In my 40s, I discovered my Humanitarian Theme working ON, when I attended a Sylvia-sponsored small discussion group. Once a week for over 6 years, we studied and discussed her findings from her two spirit guides. The discovery of my working ON felt true to my heart which believed if people had their basic needs of food and shelter met, they were obliged to advance in consciousness so they could serve others. Then when my double nine numerology profile piled on, my Humanitarian Theme was further validated.
Up until now, we have been talking about the Life Purpose of working WITH. In our next lesson, we will investigate working ON, what gets in the way.

What is a Karmic Knot?
What is a Karmic Knot and why talk about it at the academy?
Our Karmic Knot is what we are working ON. This Knot diverts us from finding our Life Purpose. It ties us up in the drama of life. It’s what we decided to challenge ourselves to work ON in this lifetime to uncover our soul more fully. It’s definitely one of your puzzle pieces.
We can discuss many of the pieces, but unless we happen to investigate your Knot in particular, you may still feel “stuckness,” like issues of blame, anger, and forgiveness that just keep repeating and never seem to get much better. This is one of the reasons I have asked you where in your life you seem to have difficulty, so hopefully, we can discover and do a puzzle piece on your Karmic Knot.
The Knot is an emotional blockage that each of us has that is so dense and with such a low vibration and energy that it can cause us great emotional and physical damage. Most of the issues we face daily may be traced back to this one blockage. The Knot can cause us many unhealthful emotions, and physical illnesses, even suicide. The cancer and the two suicide considerations I have had in my life can all be traced back to my one Karmic Knot of Rejection. (I did not see this at the time.) Sylvia Browne in “Karma and Dharma” from her “Journey of the Soul” series states “If you really want to find how you separate the chaff from the wheat, get a trauma in your life.”
I had to make you uncomfortable, otherwise you never would have moved. –The Universe.
Why call it Karmic? Most often it is a trait (almost like a habit or way of acting) that can be carried from generation to generation. Can skip generations. It can be with our own past lives or with our familial ancestors.

This is a two-part exercise. With each exercise be sure to write down what you discover. How to find out if it’s truly you? Meditate, ask and LISTEN to your inner guidance.
Part 1: Now that the basis has been laid, it’s time to look at the list below “Themes: Words only.” Please don’t skip this step. Here’s a chance to use your intuition. If you haven’t discovered the fact already, your intuition is invaluable. It protects you. It is a gateway to your soul and the quantum field. No one knows better than you what is right for you. But you have to develop a relationship with your intuition, which is beyond thinking with your mind. The mind will only take us one step higher in consciousness. The next steps all have to do with intuition, the heart, and feeling.
Look at these Themes Words and see if you resonate with the one you feel you are here to work WITH (a helpmate or purpose) and the one you feel you are to work ON (a challenge, a nemesis, a Knot.) Use your intuition. Later we’ll engage your mind when we give you fuller explanations. It’s OK if you come up with more than one for each.
Part 2: Now access the file, “Life Themes.” This is from Sylvia’s workbook, “Journey of the Soul, Topic 4, Soul’s Perfection.” Now you will be engaging your mind, receiving a clearer picture of the Themes. You may change your mind about what you chose originally. That’s OK. You can use your intuition here also.

- Awareness and Acceptance that it may exist.
- Identify what it is specifically.
- See how it Runs your life and can put you in a victim mode
- List major instances in your life that can relate back to the Knot. Were some in early childhod?
- Uncover where in your body the energy seems to gets stuck. Your throat, your gut, your heart….? Put your hand on that area and send love to it.
- Visualize that it is untied. Send thanks to it for being a catalyst in further uncovering your soul, your true self.
How long will it take to “get over it?” The untying of the Karmic Knot is a lifetime journey. And it will happen in stages as you advance on your journey. As Sylvia teaches, the most important thing our soul has to do in our lifetime is to advance in consciousness. It brings us into our Being-ness that transforms our Doing and Having. Your working WITH Theme will help you.

Sylvia Browne’s Life Themes are a key to uncovering our true soul’s life purpose. We came to this planet as Beings of Love and Light. This reality is even deeper than our Themes. We are made from Love and our true essence is Love. We are meant to be lighthouses, to beam that Love and Light into the world. To do this, we must stand strong in our own truth, our own reality, with self-love, knowing our themes and our life purpose.
We are all the same, yet different. You will do this in your own unique way, not one of us being better than another. We all have our own instrument to play as in an orchestra. Together we can make beautiful music together, energies of Love and Light.
